Trinity No. 24 Seven-string This instrument was completed in March
of 1997 for James Piorkowski, who commissioned the guitar for use
in the world-renowned Buffalo Guitar Quartet. The seventh string
allows the tessitura to be expanded, which makes playing transcriptions
of piano or orchestral music more accurate. This instrument is ideal
for the guitarist who wishes to play lute transcriptions with the
proper bass line intact. Depending on the thickness of string used,
the seventh string may be tuned from low ‘a’ to a ‘d’.
It has a vintage European spruce soundboard, stunning flame maple
sides and back, a maple neck and a ebony fingerboard which includes
a twentieth fret. The rosette is a one-of-a-kind design featuring
maple doves inlayed into a rosewood backdrop. The tuners are custom
built by David Rodgers of England, considered the best in the business.
The sound is sweet and warm, with clear projection. It is, of course,
a terrific ensemble instrument. This guitar has been performed on
in concerts across the United States, South America, and the Caribbean;
in solo settings, with orchestra, and of course, with the Buffalo
Guitar Quartet, including their farewell concert performances. It
is in near perfect condition.
